There are moments in a photographer’s career that feel almost unreal. Being in the same place, at the same time, with more than 50 Red Bull athletes – some of the world’s most elite skydivers, wingsuit pilots, BASE jumpers, paragliders and human flight specialists is one of those moments. For anyone passionate about action and aerial photography, it feels like several photographic dreams coming true at once. And then you add airplanes, helicopters, hot air balloons and a Dragonfly aircraft to the equation. At that point, you know you’re in for something special.

Red Bull Aerial Performance Camp was an exclusive, invite-only event that was held in April in an area called Bitter Wasser in Namibia. The gathering served as a high-performance training ground, creative laboratory, and collaborative space for athletes operating at the cutting edge of human flight. The camp focused on progression rather than podiums. Athletes from various disciplines come together to refine skills, test new techniques, and explore innovative ways of flying.

The environment encouraged experimentation so the boundaries were continuously pushed. Participants spend their days performing coordinated jumps, developing aerial formations, and combining elements from different disciplines. The goal was not only to improve individual performance but also to advance the sport as a whole.

While the camp lasted eight days, from a photographer’s perspective, it felt like covering ten different events and projects simultaneously. Almost every time I raised my camera and pointed a lens in a certain direction, someone was flying, jumping, gliding, or launching into the sky. It was a rare situation where extraordinary moments unfolded in every direction. Wherever I looked, something remarkable was happening. It felt almost surreal to be surrounded by so many athletes pushing the limits of human flight, all in one place.

As extraordinary as the athletes were, the location itself was equally breathtaking. We found ourselves in the middle of the Namibian wilderness, operating from an airfield where aircraft, logistics and airspace gave us a level of freedom. Expansive desert terrain, consistent weather conditions, and clear skies made sure we have perfect conditions.

We were surrounded by giraffes and other wildlife that became unexpected spectators to our daily aerial adventures. I’d like to think they were just as surprised by the spectacle as we were. The dramatic scenery, endless dunes, rugged coastline, and open plains, also provided a stunning backdrop for capturing world-class aerial footage.

Looking back at the photographs now, I realize just how much happened within such a short period of time. During the camp, everything moved at an incredible pace. Only later, while reviewing the images, do all those moments begin to reveal themselves. The photographs become a visual record of an experience that was almost impossible to fully absorb while it was happening.

Every skill and all knowledge and experience I have gathered throughout my years of aerial photography came into play during this project. Many of the athletes are not only world-class professionals but also friends and people I have worked with across the globe. That created an atmosphere that was both highly professional and genuinely personal. The trust and connection we have built over the years became an additional source of energy and motivation throughout the camp.

INSIDE THE PHOTOSHOOT WITH PREDRAG VUCKOVIC

When it comes to capturing life in the air, few photographers have built a portfolio as extensive as Predrag Vuckovic’s. Throughout his career, he has documented everything from high-performance aircraft and air races to some of the most remarkable moments in human flight, working alongside world-class skydivers, wingsuit pilots, paragliders and other elite athletes who continuously push the limits of what is possible in the sky.
Years spent operating in fast-moving, high-risk environments have given Vuckovic a unique ability to anticipate the decisive moment, often while shooting from an aircraft himself. His photographs do more than document action, they immerse viewers in it, offering perspectives that place them directly alongside the athletes as they fly, fall and navigate the air.
