The 91st Monte Carlo rally 2023 retains its traditional legendary place and one of the oldest events of its kind. For the second year in a row, it is based in Monaco with the service park in the glamourous harbour area and the starting ceremony outside the iconic Monte Carlo Casino.
Is there a greater honor and pleasure than working with WRC famous and legendary drivers. If it is still in the famous city of Monaco, then that makes this kind of photography even more important. At the beginning of each season, profiles of all the drivers and their autograph cards are made, as well as TV portraits and everything else that each media kit has for each driver. That’s exactly what I was in charge of and I’ve been doing it with pleasure for the second year in a row. The first showing of all the portraits I made was at the opening ceremony in front of the famous Casino De Monte Carlo. When your photos are displayed in such a place, the feeling of special satisfaction can only leave an even stronger impression.
The ceremonial start in front of the Casino gives this rally a unique glamour imbued with the aristocratic mystique of the small Mediterranean principality. Its tradition goes all the way back to 1911 and since its beginnings, it has aimed to increase Monte Carlo’s popularity as a tourist destination. Originally, the rally started in various European cities, from where the racers headed to Monte Carlo.
