When you combine the Spartan, a world-renowned name among trail runners, and one of the most beautiful cities in the world, you get the Spartan Trail Dubrovnik in your lenses. I had the pleasure of shooting this event, which was the first and only Spartan trail race organized in the Balkans.

A year ago, I had the opportunity to do a pre-shoot for the Spartan Trail Dubrovnik, and I had so much pleasure creating the photos that were used to promote the event via billboards, posters, social media, etc. The pre-shooting itself was so interesting that it promised a spectacular event, and I was very excited and looking forward to the event itself.

As is the case with any trail race or an event in nature, the logistics and planning are of crucial importance. Most of the locations and places through which trail runners went were not easily accessible. I had to plan how to get to the site and set everything for shooting before their arrival.

Another particularity of the event in Dubrovnik was the diversity of locations and motives I had as a backdrop. For instance, runners went through tunnels, local villages, and ridges from which they could view the Adriatic Sea. That variety of ambiance made the event even more exciting from my perspective.

The Spartan Trail Dubrovnik welcomed 250 trail runners from around the world. They were divided into three categories – depending on the track length that they were running. These runners of different ages tested their endurance on the challenging but beautiful terrains in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
