The April 2023 issue of Big Bear Now magazine features my photograph on the cover, captured during the first-ever HIGHLANDER adventure held at Big Bear Lake in 2022. In an era where digital media has taken the lead, it’s rare to find dedicated individuals who still nurture the tradition of printed magazines. That’s exactly why every printed cover holds a special meaning for me. And this one, in particular, is special for several reasons. As I mentioned, it marks the inaugural HIGHLANDER event in the breathtaking setting of Big Bear Lake. California is one of my favorite states, and this surreal landscape is simply a paradise for any photographer. The terrain along the trail is so stunning that every step offers a new and fascinating frame.
What makes it even more meaningful is that the photo features my friend John Ray, an athlete and outdoor adventurer, entering the HIGHLANDER camp after one of the five days of the event. The scene was captured at sunset, and I believe the expression on John’s face says everything you need to know about what an incredible adventure it was.
